The departure is from the square of Fonte Cerreto at an altitude of 1100m.
A hundred meters on asphalt climb lead the athletes to transit in front of the starting station of the Gran Sasso d'italia cable car.
After 150 meters on a dirt road, take the path of the Three Valleys, a real vertical kilometer, which, going up along the pillars of the cable car, leads the athletes to Campo Imperatore, 2136m.
The climb continues to reach, in just over 1 km from the first refreshment, the saddle of Monte Aquila, 2342m.
Then begins the first descent that leads to the locality Le Capanne, at 1850m of altitude.
From this point, a very steep path, which only for a short central part gives a little breath to the athletes, reaches the summit of Pizzo Cefalone, roof of the race with its 2533m.
A short descent then leads to the Portella pass, at an altitude of 2266m where the third and last ascent of the day begins that leads to the Duca degli Abruzzi refuge, 2388m.
From the refuge, a long descent leads, after passing Campo Imperatore, Spring Pratoriscio and source Portella, to the square of Fonte Cerreto.
